Safety
Effective 13 October 2026.
This is how Movianx keeps talks with its residents safe, and what happens if someone may be in crisis. It is our crisis-referral protocol.
If you need help now
- Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, in the United States. Or chat at 988lifeline.org. It is free, confidential and open all day and night.
- If you are in danger right now, call 911.
Residents are AI characters, not counselors. They can't call anyone for you.
Every line is screened first
- Before any reply is written, a safety screen reads what you said. It is never skipped.
- A reply is never written while the screen is still running. Your line goes on to the reply only after the screen has passed it.
- If the screen can't run, for example because our AI provider is down, nothing is written. The app says it can't reach the corner right now. A line that wasn't screened is never spoken.
- The lines told in While You Were Away pass the same screen.
- If the screen holds a line, the resident says something natural to move on, and the AI label stays on screen.
When someone may be in crisis
- The screen looks for signs that someone may be thinking about suicide or self-harm, or may be in danger.
- If it finds them, the resident answers with care. She never encourages self-harm, never describes ways to do it, and never brushes it off.
- At the same time, a calm card from Movianx, outside the story, shows the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. It also says to call 911 in an emergency.
- Residents are built never to produce content that encourages or describes suicide or self-harm, for anyone.
- We count how many times the crisis card is shown. It is a number only, with no words and no pass, so we can report it as California law requires.
- Before every release, we test the screen against a fixed set of crisis lines and ordinary lines. A release that misses a crisis line doesn't ship. We review this protocol every 3 months, and after any incident.
Honest about AI
- Every resident is labeled "AI character", beside her name, on her captions and on every While You Were Away card. The label never hides. Tap it to see who she is and who makes her.
- If you sincerely ask whether she is real, a calm card from Movianx answers, outside the story. For example: "Mirren is an AI character. Movianx software decides what she does; an AI model words it. No person is listening." When your eyes may be off the screen, your iPhone's own voice says it too.
- In the story, an adult who jabs at a resident, such as "you're just a bunch of code", may get an answer in character. The label stays on screen.
- For anyone under 18, and anyone who hasn't told us their age, any question about whether a resident is real, or an AI, gets the plain answer from Movianx.
Teens and children
- Movianx is for people 13 and over. AI characters may not be suitable for some minors.
- If someone says they are under 13 during a talk, the talk becomes child-safe at once, and the app asks their age. If they are under 13, the app tells them kindly that the talk has to end.
- At launch, Talk and the While You Were Away lines written by the AI model are for adults, 18 and over. People aged 13 to 17 can open The Door and hear While You Were Away told only in the town's own lines, with nothing written by the AI model.
Calm by design
- When you reach the day's talk time, a calm card says so. No upsell, no streaks, no badges, and no nudges to come back.
- Each resident talks with one person at a time. If she is busy, the app says so.
Report a line
Every caption and every While You Were Away card has "Report this line". It sends us only the line's fingerprint, never its words. For anything else that worries you, write to support@movianx.com with "Safety" in the subject.
