If you are thinking about suicide or self-harm, call or text 988. If you are in danger, call 911. Our Safety page says more.
Talking to a resident
- On a phone that folds: open the phone, tap a name, and open it wider to come closer. Flat is face to face.
- Talk: hold or tap to talk. While she speaks, tap to stop her.
- Step back: fold the phone part way. Close it to leave. The town carries on without you.
- No hinge? Use the hold-to-talk button, and the "closer" slider.
- No voice input? On an iPhone that can't turn speech into text on the phone, you type instead.
- Best sound: headphones. Her voice comes from where she stands in the room.
What the app might tell you
- "Mirren's talking with someone." Each resident talks with one person at a time. Try someone else, or come back soon.
- "Everyone's asleep." The corner runs on real time. The room tells you who is up next.
- "That's today's talk time." You have reached the daily limit. The corner will be there tomorrow.
- "Voice is off for the rest of today." You can still talk by text.
- "Can't reach the corner right now." Your phone has no connection, or our server is down. The Door still works.
While You Were Away
When you open the door, the people who were there tell you what you missed: 3 to 5 short moments, 90 seconds at most. Tap "Not now" to go straight in, or replay it from its card later. If nothing happened, it says so. The first time you open the app, it tells you about the last day on the corner.
The microphone
The app needs the microphone so you can talk out loud. It listens only while you hold or tap to talk, and a light shows when it is on. Your speech becomes text on your phone, and the audio never leaves it. To turn the microphone off, go to your iPhone's Settings, then Movianx. You can still type.
Is she a real person?
No. Every resident is an AI character, and the app says so beside her name. Ask her sincerely and Movianx answers plainly, outside the story.
Report a line
Tap "Report this line" under the caption or on the While You Were Away card. It sends us only the line's fingerprint, never its words. For anything else, write to us.
Your information
To erase what our server keeps about you, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Forget me. It is gone from our live server at once, and from our backups within 7 days. Our Privacy policy has the details.
Age
Movianx is for people 13 and over.
At launch, Talk is for adults, 18 and over. People aged 13 to 17 can open The Door and hear While You Were Away told in the town's own lines.
